A group of students from Years 8 and 9 have visited York University to take part in this year’s Roots to Success programme.
On arrival, the year groups separated off into different parts of the campus to engage in their programme of activities. The Year 8s met and worked alongside students from Vale of York Academy, completing a variety of activities about aspirations, whilst the Year 9s focussed on choosing options and how this would be relevant later on in their academic path.
The students also completed activities such as looking at which jobs/careers were available to study at higher education and which GCSEs people needed for the jobs they were doing. Students were encouraged to self-reflect about where they felt they were and how well they thought they were doing. The students were also given a guided tour around part of the campus followed by a lovely meal in the university’s canteen. One of ourΒ Year 10 students who came along to support us on the dayΒ engagedΒ in some lovely photographyΒ which you can see below.
A final evaluation of the day followed a ‘Quiz the Ambassador’ event where students were able to ask current university students questions about their course or university life in general. All students were given a little goody bag to take home with them.
Thank you to all at the University of York for hosting us and for Miss McCartney who came along to support the students.
