Applying for a school place

Millthorpe has a designated catchment area and children living within this area are given priority in admissions and are usually allocated a place at the school, subject to the admission limit. Children from outside this area may apply to the Local Authority for a place at the school and the request will be granted if there is space.

Full details of how we manage our admissions, including how we allocate places if we are oversubscribed, can be found in our Admissions Policy 2023-24.

This guide for parents from City of York Council will also be useful – please have a read before you make your application.

All applications for a school place are coordinated by the Local Authority. You should apply to the Local Authority, either by submitting a paper form or online, where this is available.

If parents/carers wish to apply for a school place, applications can be madat https://www.york.gov.uk/SchoolAdmissions via the ParentPortal. The Local Authority will confirm the outcome of the application in writing within 15 school days.  If the application is refused, the Local Authority will advise on the statutory appeal procedure.
