Members of the boys football team at Millthorpe School are now proudly sporting a new sports strip thanks to the generosity of a local businessman.
York-based company, Modelmatic has generously sponsored the school’s new football kit after Director, Jon Irvine, saw a plea for help on the school’s weekly email.
Modelmatic is a specialist online store which buys and sells new and preloved diecast cars.
Jon, who has one child at the school and two others at primary school, said “I’m thrilled to contribute to the success and wellbeing of the students at Millthorpe by funding their new football kit. Playing sport can instil discipline, teamwork, and a strong sense of community into its players and by sponsoring this new kit, the boys can play their matches feeling like a true team.”
Millthorpe School’s Head of PE, Mike Boothman said “It’s wonderful that our teams can now play in competitive matches in a bespoke kit rather than their PE kit and slightly scruffy bibs! A proper football strip really promotes team spirit and belonging, and I know the lads will wear their new kit with pride. We’re really grateful to Jon and Modelmatic for the generous sponsorship.”
The football kit, proudly displaying Modelmatic’s logo alongside the school’s logo, got its first airing last week as the Year 10 footballers played against a team from Tadcaster Grammar School. The new strip proved to be a good omen as the boys secured an impressive 5-0 victory.
Millthorpe School is part of the South Bank Multi Academy Trust, alongside five other York schools.
