A former Millthorpe School student is set to return to our TV screens next week, in his debut as a lead actor in the upcoming CBBC series High Hoops.
Following his success playing series regular Lewis in Season 4 of ITVβs The Bay in 2023, 16-year-old Arthur Kay will star in his first full season of High Hoops, which is released on CBBC and BBC iPlayer next week.
Arthur, who many will remember for his fantastic portrayal of Buddy in Millthorpeβs Elf the Musical Christmas production, left the school last year after completing his GCSEs.
In High Hoops, Arthur plays Conor, one of the central characters in the ten-episode series. Filmed in Halifax, West Yorkshire, the comedy follows a struggling school basketball team as they are shaken up by the arrival of Aoife OβNeill, a tall, gaffe-prone but unstoppable force. The show is a heartwarming tale of determination, friendship, and self-discovery, following Aoife and her brother Conor as they move to a new town and school, seeing it as a chance to redefine their futures.
Created and written by Sinead Fagan, a passionate basketball player and coach, High Hoops is a sharp, witty, and aspirational series set in an urban comprehensive school. Arthur appears alongside Darci Hull as Aoife, Robert Webb who plays headteacher Mr Holt, Isy Suttie who plays Aoife and Conorβs mum BrΓd, and Nigel Boyle who plays the school basketball coach Jim.
Arthur first appeared on TV back in 2018 when he was a pupil at Scarcroft School, after landing a role in Doctor Who. He has also played the role of Kaden in Brassic.
Assistant Principal at Millthorpe, Adam Baybutt, said: βWe are incredibly proud of Arthurβs achievements and canβt wait to see him shine on screen again. He was such a committed student, balancing his GCSE studies incredibly well alongside his filming commitments. He demonstrated immense dedication and deserves every success.β
Speaking about the launch of High Hoops, Arthur said βIβm really excited to watch the series after having had such a fantastic time filming last summer. Juggling filming and my GCSEs was tricky, but everyone at Millthorpe was really supportive.β
You can tune in to High Hoops on CBBC and BBC iPlayer from Monday 17 March to watch Arthur in action.
