On the centenary anniversary of the end of the First World War in 2018, Millthorpe School students, staff and parents were asked to make and dedicate a poppy to a serviceperson who paid the ultimate sacrifice.
The response was amazing, and we were able to produce a breath-taking display of the poppies.
Sadly, the display has been lost amongst the challenges of the last few years, so we therefore calling on all of our students, staff, and parents/carers to ask you to make another poppy (or your first if you/your child is new to the school), so that we can rebuild this magnificent display and ensure that Millthorpe School “Never forgets.”
Your poppy can be made from paper or card, or you may wish to knit or crochet a poppy. It can be made of anything that you have available.
Ms Frankland will be providing students with materials if they are required. Students will just need to ask their Form Tutor and they will be given the materials needed to make a poppy. We ask for a 50p donation, where possible.
When we originally made the display, we asked that each poppy be dedicated to a specific person who died during World War One, using the www.everyoneremembered.org website. We are delighted to inform you that every single serviceperson has indeed been remembered but please feel free to use this website if you would like to dedicate your poppy to a particular person.
You could also use the local history group database, provided by Clements Hall Local History Group, if you would like to dedicate your poppy to somebody who lived in your local area. They may have lived in your street, or even your house! The website is available here.
When you have made your poppy, please take it to D10, or hand it to Mr Baybutt when he is on duty at break/lunch so that Ms Frankland can add them to the display.
At the going down of the sun, and in the morning, we will remember them.
