As part of Park Run’s 20th anniversary celebrations, Year 9 student, Josie Cook has been recognised for her remarkable dedication to the event, appearing in an interview on BBC Radio York.

Josie has been taking part in the Park Run since she was six years old when she started with the Junior Park Run. Not only has she now completed more than 200 runs, she has also volunteered at the gatherings more than 50 times.

At the Saturday morning Junior Park Runs for 4-14 year olds, Josie regularly takes the lead in warming up the young participants before they set off on their 2km run, something which she says still makes her a little nervous, but which she loves as everyone is so happy and excited to be taking part.

During the interview, Josie talks about the benefits of being part of Park Run and encourages others to give it a go. She says “It’s amazing how it has brought all the community together and people who never thought they would run. It’s a really positive atmosphere and if it’s your first run, people encourage you, spur you on and don’t judge you if you walk. Everyone is just glad that you got yourself out of bed and did it!”

Mrs Rothenburg, Acting Principal at Millthorpe said “We’re really proud of Josie! She has shown tremendous dedication and commitment to running and volunteering and is a wonderful advocate for all the benefits Park Run has to offer.”
