Millthorpe students take Matilda to the stage

2024 > December > 12 > Millthorpe students take Matilda to the stage

Next week, students from Millthorpe School in York will be treading the boards as they take their school production of Matilda the Musical to the stage.

The Millthorpe students will bring the Roald Dahl classic to life over three nights, performing to an audience of parents, families, friends and members of the school community.

The production tells the story of Matilda Wormwood, a gifted, book-loving girl with telekinetic powers who is mistreated by her uncaring parents. She attends Crunchem Hall Primary School, where she is taught by the kind Miss Honey. However, the school is run by the tyrannical headmistress, Miss Trunchbull, who uses fear and cruelty to torment the children. The book explores the themes of empowerment, knowledge, courage, justice, and standing up for what is right.

Head of the Performance Faculty at Millthorpe School, Katy Sladen, said “I am so proud of the whole cast who have been rehearsing since September to make our Matilda production the best that it can be. Their commitment and enthusiasm has been incredible! We’ve also got a fabulous team of students and staff working hard behind the scenes on the stage set, costumes lighting and sound. We’d love to share our production with as many people as possible, so please do come along with your families and enjoy a lovely evening.”

The show will take place in the school hall at Millthorpe at 6.30pm on Tuesday 17, Wednesday 18 and Thursday 19 December at 6.30pm and tickets priced £5 for adults and £3 for children, can be bought on the door (cash only).
