I am an Assistant Headteacher and SENDCo at Millthorpe. As SENDCo, my primary responsibility is to foster an inclusive environment where students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) can thrive academically and socially. I work collaboratively with staff, families, and external professionals to identify and implement tailored support, ensuring every student receives the help they need to succeed. I oversee statutory requirements, such as Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), and guide teachers in removing barriers to learning.

I thoroughly enjoy the strong sense of community at Millthorpe and this, together with our students’ positive attitudes, makes our school a joy to be part of. Equally, the camaraderie among staff is exceptional. We are a team in every sense – supporting one another, sharing successes, and working together to provide the best possible experience for our students. The breaktime pizza bagels are pretty great as well!

I have been part of the Millthorpe community for eight years, starting my journey here as a newly qualified teacher. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of growing in my career, first as head of department, then head of humanities, before stepping into the SENDCo role, where my true passion lies. Inclusive teaching has always been at the heart of my approach and I’m committed to ensuring every student has the support they need to succeed.

I grew up on a family farm in Cambridgeshire, which instilled in me a strong sense of hard work and community. Later, I moved to York, where I met my husband, and together we’ve made it our home. I like being outdoors as much as possible and going for walks all around Yorkshire at weekends. I have done white water kayaking at university and was lucky enough to kayak around Scotland.
