Mr R Beever

I joined Millthorpe as Vice Principal for Deep Support on the day the whole nation went into lockdown! Thankfully we have come through this difficult period and my role in school looks like the job I originally applied for!

My main responsibilities are to oversee behaviour, attitudes and attendance. My role comes with huge rewards as I get to watch students grow over the five years they are with us into well rounded members of the school and wider community.

I enjoy my role immensely because of the level of student contact it involves. Students say the most interesting things!

I work with students to overcome some significant barriers so they can fulfil their academic and personal development potential. Watching them leave at 16 as mature, respectful, tolerant and kind young people is the reason I love this job. I can’t imagine the same level of job satisfaction is possible when your measure of success is linked to a company’s year-end profit figure or the like.

Although work is hugely important to me, my priority will always be my family. I’m lucky enough to have a family who spend every waking moment playing competitive sport and I’m still hanging onto my youth whether that’s playing football, going out on my bike or snowboarding in the holidays. However, increasingly so, I get more joy from watching my family develop as athletes rather than competing myself!

My other passions are food and music. I love to save the pennies and enjoy a nice meal with my wife or relive my youth at a gig – both great ways to celebrate after a rewarding week at school.
