A message from Ms Greenhalgh

This week in school, we have been taking part in Anti-Bullying Week. We have shared information with students on the theme of ‘Reach Out’ and encouraged everyone to get their odd socks on for Odd Socks Day on Monday, to celebrate what makes us all unique.

Well done to our Year 11 students who have sat some of their pre-public exams (PPEs) this week. Keep going, you’ve just got another week to go!

It’s been great to see so many of our students taking part in extra-curricular activities both at lunchtime and after school. Keep an eye on our Twitter account for updates about what is happening when or you can check out our website for further information. Please do encourage your children to get involved – there really is something for everyone!

I hope you all have a lovely weekend.

Kind regards

Gemma Greenhalgh

Visitors will need to pre-register via the York College website.

Post-16 Taster Days – January 2023

A reminder to our Year 11 students that Post-16 Taster Days take place in lots of institutions across the city on Tuesday 10 January or Thursday 12 January.

If your son/daughter wishes to attend one of them YOU MUST APPLY BY THE DEADLINE OF 5 DECEMBER (unless otherwise stated). Schools and colleges will not take late bookings.

The attached document has all the offers in one place, including links to click on in order to access booking forms.

If you need any more information or help, please contact Miss Watts.

Maths news

Well done to all the Year 11 students who sat Paper 1 of their PPEs this week. Paper 2 and 3 are next week and students will need a calculator. We have Casio classwiz models in school for £9 should students need to purchase one.
This week’s puzzle is courtesy of ‘Puzzles and Brains’ and is a rather pleasing ‘Number Snake’. If you complete both, maybe you could make your own – what numbers will you remove? Extra reward stamps will be awarded to anyone that can make their own.

Christmas festivities

We know that for some of you it will be too soon for the ‘C’ word, but we wanted to let you know about a few fun activities and events happening across the city. Yesterday, York’s Winter Lights were turned on to coincide with the start of St Nicholas Fair and there’s lots more to enjoy!

Safeguarding

If you have significant concerns for the welfare of a child, in addition to being able to contact Mrs Cole or Ms Simpson during school hours by emailing safeguarding@millthorpe.southbank.academy, you may wish to make direct contact with the York MASH (Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub) on T: 01904 551900, option 3. They operate an out-of-hours service so concerns can be raised with them at any time.
